Dear Parents and Students,

I want to take the opportunity to welcome students, faculty, and staff back to school for the 2024-2025
school year. It is an exciting time at Sugar-Salem numerous projects in various stages of development
and construction. The new facilities that are being built will benefit students and patrons for decades.
Next week, each school in the district will be hosting registration on August 13 th and 14 th . If you are a
current student, you will be able to complete the registration process through the PowerSchool App or
online. The district will send a google document that will outline the process to complete the
registration remotely. New students to the district will need to go into the school to start the
registration process.
Last year, the district worked collaboratively with parents and students to emphasize the importance of
attendance. Attendance is vital for learning and has a financial impact on the district. One challenge
that the district will be faces annually is funding. The majority of the district funds in calculated by the
average daily attendance (ADA) from August 21 st through November 8 th . The second portion of our
funding is based on the best 28 weeks of the district-wide average daily attendance. Last year, the
district did a great job of striving to achieve the goal of 97%. From the beginning of school until the
second Friday in November the district achieved 96.7% and for the best 28 weeks the district had 95%
attendance. I want to thank you as parents and students for all of your efforts in being to school
consistently. This year, we will have the same goal of striving to achieve 97% attendance. Please
remember that each percentage point of increase or decrease equates to hundreds of thousands of
dollars in funding.
The school district is in need of your support and action to help us with this possible loss in funds from
the state of Idaho. It will be imperative that students are in school every day possible. I would
encourage families to review the academic calendar on the district website and strive to schedule family
trips with the built in breaks in mind.
I am looking forward to the 2024-2025 school year. I want to work collaboratively as a district and
community to continue to be the gem of Idaho.
Warm Regards,

Jared Jenks, Superintendent
